The weekly hour long program gives listeners an intimate and often whimsical look at artists that both shy from the spotlight and swarm to it like white on rice.
The “Voice of Viva” Ted Shumaker affably hosts a free form radio environment in which guests candidly use stories, inspirational music, phone calls from fans and friends, and daily anecdotes to reel through the years.
Since Me + You’s incarnation in 2007 we’ve hosted nearly a hundred bands and artists in our cozy Flatbush Pavilion studio. 2009 saw the release of the Best of Me + You Vol. 1 which featured over thirty bands and fifty exclusive tracks sold exclusively by Viva Radio & American Apparel. The Best of Me + You Vol. 2 is slated for fall 2010 as we continue to give listeners the best in new music and unique talk.
Viva Radio is the official in-store music and audio network heard in over 300 American Apparel stores worldwide.

The goal of a Me + You session is to allow artists to relax and show a different side of themselves than one might find at a live show, on their album, or in a more traditional interview atmosphere.
At Viva, studio space is limited, but the results are not. Artists will typically answer some questions, delve into a song, then talk a bit more with Ted. The best moments are usually off-the cuff; tour anecdotes, inter-band revelations, or sometimes just impromptu wisdom. It's the perfect place for an artist to get intimate, both in the interview and musical segments.
When recording, we tend to make comfort the priority. If we can mic something less intrusively at the cost of some flexibility in mixing, we make the decision that will go towards the best performance. If we can do without headphones and stick with acoustic guitars, we go with the front-porch vibe. Working with a stripped-down sound yields the best results, although we're no stranger to DIs and extravagant keyboard set ups. Just don't expect to hear your voice auto-tuned, takes stitched together, or anything of the sort. We're one step away from going to tape here.
