Welcome to another edition of Fact Sheet Viva brought to you by Violens Radio. Waaait wha? Ah yes, Me + You Pt. 47 featuring NYC's own Violens airs this coming Monday, May 4th at 12 PM. That’s what we meant to say. Viva shares more than Vi with Violens; the NYC band played our SXSW 2009 showcase, Jorge DJ'd the AA flea market with gf Caroline, and we've always held a dark spot in our heart for the icicle workings of pre-Violens Lansing-Dreiden. Tune in!

This Monday also sees the Viva Radio sponsored screening of 1991: The Year Punk Broke, once again at the lovely Walter Reade Theater at Lincoln Theater. This landmark documentary is perfect for late Spring / early Summer featuring some of the most noteworthy rock musicians of the early 90s effin’ around at bunch of hot Euro festivals. If you’re off “The Wagon”, make like Dino Jr and enjoy complimentary Stella Artois and the spunky punky sounds of Max Wowch of Burgertime and Michael Goodstein of WFMU’s Choking on Cufflinks at the official afterparty.

Golly gee, what more could you want on just another Manic Monday? Maybe a traipse through the dreadlocked mind canals of another 90s band that broke punkfunkmetalfusionheyyyalllright? Keep reading for your chance to win.

Trip away, Viva Radio

Featured Reunion & Righteous Box Set Jane's Addiction

Hey listeners, you know how rock band reunions sometimes / usually suck? It would seem the recently announced Jane’s Addiction reunion wouldn’t be an exception after Perry’s Satellite Party-ing and Navarro set up Camp Freddy. But underneath the guyliner and pink feather boas are the same dudes that brought us the greatest Lou Reed cover ever, the monumental bassline of Mountain Song, and Three Days (ie Three Lays - it’s that long).

We’d like to think the band regained their senses after The Nav (come on, someone must call him that) appeared on Tim & Eric Awesome Show but Trent Reznor really greased the wheels and got all 4 OG members together for a farewell Nine Inch Nails summer tour. And check it, brahs: JA is also recording new material, and from the sound of the sparse, tribal drum-heavy single, they are actually back to experimenting.

Rhino Records is releasing A Cabinet of Curiosities, a boxset emphasizing “demos, live cuts, and rarities” from the golden age of Jane’s. If you ever wanted some contextual insight to the environment that surrounded the group between recording Nothing’s Shocking and completing Ritual De Lo Habitual then the 30 unreleased tracks and DVD with videos and rare live footage of this boxset should do the trick.

If your curiosity is piqued and you wanna try your hand at this month’s trivia contest, be the first to tell us which post-Jane’s Addiction band featuring Eric Avery found its music video under scrutiny from MTV’s legendary animated commentators of crass, Beavis & Butthead. Send your answer to trivia@viva-radio.com and win A Cabinet of Curiosities boxset and some other Viva Radio goodies.
